What is an NVR?
NVR stands for Network Video Recorder. It is a device or software application that records video from network cameras and IP cameras. Unlike a traditional analog video recorder (DVR), which records to a local hard drive, an NVR records video data directly to a network server or a local storage device, such as a hard drive.
NVRs are commonly used in video surveillance systems, where they are connected to multiple network cameras to record and store video footage. They offer several advantages over traditional DVRs, such as remote accessibility, better image quality, and support for advanced features like video analytics. What's the difference between POE vs Wi-Fi?
POE stands for Power over Ethernet, it refers to the technology that allows you to power up a device (such as a network camera) through the same cable that you use for data transfer.
Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) is a technology that enables wireless data transmission over a local area network (LAN) using radio waves.
In summary, POE is a way of providing power to a camera as well as transferring data, while Wi-Fi is a way of transmitting data wirelessly only. At AV Mart we sell mostly POE cameras due to their reliability and ease of installation.
What is a PIR sensor?
A PIR (Passive Infrared) sensor is a device used in security cameras to detect movement by measuring infrared radiation emitted by objects in its field of view. When a person or object moves within the PIR's range, it will trigger the security camera to start recording or send an alert to the user. PIR sensors are commonly used in motion detection systems due to their reliability and low power consumption.
What is focal range?
The focal range of a camera lens refers to the range of distances from the camera at which the lens can focus and produce a clear image. It is often expressed in millimeters and represents the minimum and maximum distances at which the lens can focus. A lens with a wide focal range is called a zoom lens, as it can zoom in on a subject or zoom out to capture a wider scene. A lens with a narrow focal range is called a prime lens, as it is fixed at one focal length and can't zoom in or out.
The focal range of a lens is one of the key factors that determines where a security camera should be mounted based on what you are wanting to capture footage of. What is a fixed lens camera?

What is a motorised lens camera?

What is optical zoom?

Unlike digital zoom, which simply enlarges the pixels of an image, optical zoom uses a lens to physically change the magnification of the subject, capturing more detail and preserving the image quality.
